Ion ionization energy

WebIonization (or ionisation) is the process by which an atom or a molecule acquires a negative or positive charge by gaining or losing electrons, often in conjunction with other chemical changes. The resulting electrically charged atom or molecule is called an ion. WebIonization energy within a group generally decreases as you move from top to bottom. This is because as you move down the valence electrons are located in shells farther away from the nucleus and so feel less attraction to the nucleus and are easier to remove.
