Define exothermic animal
WebMost animals that live on land need to regulate their body temperatures in order to survive and promote the maximum efficiency of their enzymes. The process of managing temperature is called thermoregulation. Thermoregulation is defined as the regulation of heat in an animal, usually keeping it within a specific range. An ectotherm (from the Greek ἐκτός (ektós) "outside" and θερμός (thermós) "heat") is an organism in which internal physiological sources of heat are of relatively small or of quite negligible importance in controlling body temperature. Such organisms (for example frogs) rely on environmental heat sources, which permit them to operate at very economical metabolic rates.
